As introduced in the last post, the topic of the first interactive workshop was scaling.

Thereby the conference attendants have proven creativity: starting with scaling in zoology over to semi-conductor industries and materials science (keyword: porosity, surface effects,…), the statement of „CPUs being 2-dimensional brains“ was made.
Stimulated by the instructions, discussions went further on towards the BMI and its justification or cool keeping of different sized beer cans.

And finally the scaling of different nation’s army was a hot topic, too…

In all this I liked following sentences from introductory article by JBS Haldane: „The higher animals are not larger than the lower because they are more complicated. They are more complicated because they are larger.„

Furthermore, first international contacts have been established during the workshop. We’ll see what will be on tonight. Hopefully, the attendants of different origin will mix and have a good time together.
